Thank you all for coming here, on this very special day. I would like to talk to you about The Concealed Carry-Law here on campus. Many of you have protested against this, but I got something on my mind that I want to share with you, from another perspective.
I am Twenty-two years old and I’ve been shooting for almost seven years.
I’ve also been a member of Austin rifle club here in Texas for five years. Because of this I have become eligible for several shooting scholarships around the state. Achieving stricter gun control laws would obliterate any opportunity I’ve could have had, to attend a decent college, on any kind of shooting scholarship. Everyone deserve a fair chance to attend a college. I’m so lucky that I have this opportunity for a scholarship, because if I didn’t get it, I might not even be a student at Texas university.
Ever since I first learned how to shoot, the issue with gun violence all around the nation became clear, Guns are not the problem, people are. Purging our society of violence and murder, cannot be done by gun control legislation. That would only be liberating American citizens of our constitutional rights. You’re not eliminating guns from society, but you are eliminating our ability to protect our lives, liberty and our pursuit of happiness.
