In 1944 he married Evelyn Mase. They had two sons, Madiba Thembekile "Thembi" and Makgatho, and two daughters both called Makaziwe. He and his wife divorced in 1958. He went away to study law when he was. He wanted to help free black people from apartheid. until 1922 the government in south african ran apartheid. Apartheid is when black people have to live apart from white people.
