School shootings essay

In many parts of the US, 180 school shootings occur every year. This is a massive problem, that needs to be dealt with. Parents should feel safe sending their children to school in the morning. President Trump thinks that the solution to this growing epidemic is more guns. Trump thinks that the teachers should also bear firearms in case of a school shooting. I think this is totally ridiculous, and unnecessary. It is the same principle as fighting fire with fire. You don’t end violence with more violence. Many think that the problem lies in violent video games. This is totally not the case. Studies have proven that violence in video games do not induce real life violence. If video games were one the reasons for violence, then violent movies and books should be equally blamed. One person, a quote, a game, a book or a song is not reason for the problem or even one attack. I think the problem is more the society that we have built. More and more young people get serious mental problems nowadays, and I think that is a big contributor to the problem. I think the society, and the easy availability of firearms, are some of the main reasons for the massive spike in school shootings and violence that occur every year. I think the solution to the problem would be to educate young people more about mental health and bullying and provide better resources to help young people who are having a tough time. The children who commit school shootings should be helped instead of being blamed and villainized. We should definitely also apply more strict gun regulations. I know the Second Amendment would be very difficult to change or get rid of, but certain gun bans, such as fully automatic weapons, will be a big step in right direction. The problems with changing the Second Amendment are that many people agree with more guns, and it would take a lot of different presidents to change it. A less efficient method would be for schools to prepare better for the attacks. This could be done by making more emergency exits, or better protected classrooms. This is less efficient because it does not stop the problem, it just prepares students for the inevitable shootings. this should be a last-ditch effort to prevent it, but it can be used while we figure out a way to end the violence.
