Do we want prisons to punish, or to rehabilitate is an opinion article written by Matt Terzi. Matt is a political satirist. The article is about what we are going to do with prisoners.
A person gets caught by the police. We will see if it helps to go to jail, or the person not become a better person.
Most people return to prison after being released. New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo was forced to drop his plan to use State funds to offer prison twenty inmates a college education. Education is important if you want to get people off the criminal path. Being in jail is like being in a small community. You have to respect each other, just like on the other side of jail. How do we change the US focus on US prisons? With fewer prisoners, prisons will have larger budgets for the rehabilitation program. All surplus funds should be used to improve the lives of those who are nonviolent and who are not aggressive. You can give prisoners better meals and more leisure time.
