I am writing to share my thoughts about teenage crime. I think it is a big problem in many countries, especially the USA. Many teenagers get involved in crime, and it affects them for the rest of their lives, the victims’ families, relatives, and society as a whole.
What kinds of crimes do teenagers commit? When you think of teenage crime, you might think of shoplifting, graffiti, or maybe abuse. Unfortunately, these are not the only crimes they commit. Statistics show that over 1,000 murders a year are committed by teenagers. That’s about 8% of all murders, in the US!
Data also shows that 1 out of 8 rape cases are committed by teenagers, and About 25% of all violent crimes are also committed by teens.
But why does this happen?
Why do teenagers commit crimes?
There are many possible reasons. Some probably do it because their friends do it, and they want to fit in. Especially with smaller crimes like shoplifting or graffiti.
But when it comes to murder, rape, and violent crimes, I think we need to look at a deeper level. Their mental health, home life, or if they’re being bullied or abused. Will play a big rollMany teens struggle with their mental health, but not to the point where they want to kill someone. That is rare. However, if someone deals with pain, anger, or trauma and doesn’t get help, it can lead to these situations.
