Generation Gap
A Generation Gap is referred to as the difference of beliefs and ideas between people from different generations, older generation and newer generation, which is a normal phenomenon and different in vary from country to country. However, the real meaning of a Generation Gap, is the lack of understanding between the different generations, as for the new and older generations. I’m going to be talking about, what a Generation Gap is, and how one generation is bound to be different from the other. ?I’m ?also ?going to be talking about the pressure, elders feel like they have to have, on the younger generation. ?There is a difference between what the youngers are expected to do and what is actually happening in the world. The older generation feels like, they have to demand an order, for the young generation to do, but they aren’t wise enough to do so. Young people are not prepared to follow whatever their elders tell them.
The people belonging to the older generation, also called the traditionalists, usually wonder, as to what has gone wrong with the new generation. They feel that during their time, children and teens behaviour and obedience was much better. When the elders were younger, they were more obedient, they had better behaviour and had much more respect for their elders. The new generation, on the other hand, feel that they are capable enough to learn on their own, rather than lean heavily on the older generation for any guidance. The younger generation feels that the present system of education, has little relevance to the realities of life. It is not job oriented. There is a difference between what the youngers are expected to do and what is actually happening in the world. The elders feels like, they have to demand an order, for the young to do. The talk of duty, dedication and morality. leaves the young in a quandary. Young people are not prepared to follow whatever their elders tell them. Parents have huge expectations from their kids. They have a set image of how their child should behave based on their tradition and values, as well as the way the other kids in their extended family are doing. They think they know best about how and what their kids should do in life. People belonging to the older generation must understand that, if they have a child, born in a different generation and that their mindset is different from the olders generation. Parents and grandparents need to pay attention to why their children are behaving in the way they are behaving, rather than blindly imposing their rules and ideas later. Parents must become friends with their children to understand their psyche. Children, on the other hand, must respect their parents. They must trust their parents and share their thoughts with them. Children must be open to feedback and understand that the advice coming from their parents isn’t wrong. It will only help them progress in life. The Generation Gap has widened to such an extent that the old and the young people appear to be living in two separate worlds without any interaction. In order to bridge this generation gap, elders should adopt a more sympathetic approach towards the young, and try to understand the emotions, the aspirations and the problems of the young. The youth should realise that they have no experience of life.
