A Piece of Advice
I’ve stayed with a family in Canada. All very nice people. But when you stay there for 14 days, you can get homesick?. I got homesick, and it ? wasn’t a nice experience. But the family helped me through it. There are many advantages of staying with a family, from a whole other culture. You get to live like they do. By their rules. It’s very exciting living with other people, that you don’t know that well. Because you see how they tackle a day in life. An ?important? thing you do with your ?new family ?is spending a lot of time with them, because if you don’t spend time with them, there isn’t really much to do over there. You have to do everything yourself. You just get to see a lot more, when you and the family are actually? ?talking?. There is of course ways to tackle these challenges. Homesick? is a very common thing to feel, when you stay with another family. My mistake was that I didn’t talk to my family, like send a text, or give them a phone call each day. So I began to miss them alot. What I did, was sit down with the people i stayed with, and facetime? my family. ? And from that day, I facetimed my mother and my father everyday. If it’s your first time living with another family, you can still get homesick, if you text your family everyday. You could maybe suggest facetiming your family at home, with the people you are staying with. Feeling alone? is also something you can get through. If it’s you, who are shy, and not very good at talking to your ?new family?, you can always just start with ?small talks?. When you sit down together at dinner, ?you can tell about your day?, and then ask another how their day was. And slowly you just open up. You’ll get close with the people you are staying with, and all will just be so much nicer. If it’s the other way around. That it’s them, who are? avoiding? you. You need to speak to them? about it. Or maybe you should think about getting ? a new place to stay. It’s not nice, if you can’t speak to the people you’re staying with. It will sort of feel like fish in an aquarium. You know that the others are there, but you don’t speak to each other, or share feelings. I wish? ?the best of luck for this new programme, and hope that all the participants will enjoy staying with someone, in our culture. And that they will learn a lot.
