I personally, think that it’s thrilling to met other people from different cultures. It’s exciting to hear about their different lives and experiences.
The idea of going to a whole other country and living with a host family is terrifying, but very exciting. You’re going to stay with a new family for a whole year and that can be scary. I think it’s important to remember, that the host family is properly also scared. The family wants to give you a year to remember, they want you to have the best time possible. I think that the best thing you can do, as family and student, is talk to each other. Get to know each other a little, before spending a whole year together.
An exchange year is all about going to a new country with a new culture and try to live in this new country. You’re going to go to a new school and make new friends. The school might be different then your used to. It might have different rules, like for example dress code. As both the student and the family you will live your year in a whole different way. You might get inspired and take some of it with you home. You can also learn a lot about a new culture by having an exchange student living with you.
