The main character is curious throughout the entirety of the story, mostly being invested in his correlation with his father whom he doesn’t know anything about.
The story is formed as a comedy, but not as one that makes the reader, the reader might let out a light chuckle, but the story intends to inform of the struggles of this child, whose name is Mickey.
A comedy is characterized with the antagonist or the main character being in control as in this instance Mickey is, another trademark of comedy is realism in comedies nothing greatly stands out, unless it has an underlying more imaginative genre. Here we only receive realism nothing is out of sorts, his sister being a drug addict whilst his mother sleeps with different men and struggles to gain stability, is nothing odd. They are things that in the modern world do not seem to far-fetched from other people’s realities. The mother whom Mickey throughout the story disgusts is from his perspective just that, disgusting. But as a reader one has to interpret it in other ways, such as Mickey showing anger and disgust towards his mother, because the lack of a father figure has greatly deteriorated his manners and respect towards others, and his sister being a drug addict certainly aids in this. which in this short story, influences heavily not only Mickeys decisions and opinions but also the readers interpretation of how much of a ‘flake’ as Mickey calls it, his mother is.
