Good afternoon everybody, I am very pleased to be here today. I am also a student here at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. If some of you don’t know me, I am [NAVN A] and I’m a second-year student here. I am here today, because I have been asked if I would like to give a speech about how the American dream have changed over time.
The American Dream symbolizes the endless opportunities America has to offer. Or at least it used to. With the businessman Donald Trump as president in the US, one could say that foreigners can forget about the American Dream. The motto “make America great again” doesn’t exactly invite immigrants to the states, the Americans comes first if you ask the president. The idea that hard work is what it takes to achieve your goal is slowly vanishing. It is clear that the American Dream isn’t as predominant today as it was generations before ours.
I have divided my speech in two parts. First, I will explain and comment on different views on the American Dream. Second, I will discuss what it takes to achieve the American Dream in present America.
In the beginning the American dream was about living in a country of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable. A lot of people from around the world, heard about this great American dream and then they moved to the country. A lot of different cultures, languages, religions and so on became one country. And that’s the reason why we are gathered here today. You have to understand why we are living in this country, where there are a lot of talk about the American dream.
