I?t is quite clear, that there are many differences between us, the more modern world and them, the people, or rather community, stuck in the 17-hundreds, called the Amish. Not only have do we keep evolving as a society, but they stay stuck where they are. As we slowly come to accept newer things, like homosexuality, mental illness and alike, they still think the worst thing you can do is swear on God’s name or drive a car, something most normal people do. For me personally, I think it’s very interesting to research their community. A? girl my age there would have been raised a proud Christian would have married early, gotten herself some kids and then that would have been her life. Most girls like her only dream of having a nice family and husband. Me, I dream of getting myself a boyfriend, like her, and go travel the world with him. She won’t be able to leave her community, but I have big plans for where I’m gonna go, starting with Oxford or Cambridge university, while she might not even get to go to school. I am also a proud Muslim, not believing like them, but still proud. I don’t even know how’d they’d react to a Muslim. Of course, she has her Rumspringa, or my what my every day is, but our lives are still so different. B?ut again, just like I will, she’ll go through life as a human. She’ll get her period, she’ll fall in love, she’ll have ups and downs, just like me and any other person. We aren’t that much different from them. Not as much as we think at least. She’ll develop a preference for music and clothes, maybe some more energetic Christian rock and bigger, looser dresses, just like I like indie music and loose relaxing pants and hoodies. W?e really aren’t that different. The only difference is how we choose to act on feelings and how we decide to live our lives in general. Just like I decide to go travel as much as I possibly could and want to go find the right boyfriend and maybe not get kids, she’ll do nearly the opposite. That’s how life will be sometimes. We are all different.
