The social mobility term, describes as to how you are able to either move upwards or downwards in in the society’s hierarchy. You can either improve or decrease your status, by the choises and actions that you take throughout your life. In Britain, many problems occur as to how the society isn’t working to its fullest. It has become a major challenge for people both from the lower classes, but in recent years also people from the middle class to progress in the society. Your income has a huge influence, on the possibilities of your families future. Children born into the lower class, usually face a bigger obstacle for building a prosperous future for themselves. The problems are a product of the way the British society is being run by the liberal society model. Big parts of the modern industry has been automated, which means the number of decent income jobs for people without education, has decreased significantly and many more are now working low income jobs, or has fallen out of the job marked and are living of social benefits.
In Britain, the social mobility is poor. So poor in fact, that they actually have a social mobility commission, focusing on the reasons for the problem, and the possible solutions. The British society can be thought of as a two tier society. The ones who are doing well and has a surplus in their lives for enjoyment, culture and further education. The other ones are struggling, and experience a daily challenge with paying bills and barely surviving with the funds that their income provides. This class is often referred to as “the working class”. The working class are usually found in the rural areas of the country, and the class are facing major issues. The agriculture is becoming an industry, where technology and automation is slowly taking over. And this particular industry is dominating these regions of the country. Another problem for the outer areas, is that possibilities for good jobs are very slim. An example of this is the video given in the list of sources, where they explain that only 6 out of 10 of successful students with a degree from the town Barnsley located in South Yorkshire, ends up working there. This means that development in these certain areas, are hard to experience at this current stage. People are moving away from these areas, because of the decreasing job situation.
