IntroductionIn this analytical essay I will write about the shorty story “The lottery”. The short story is written by Shirley Jackson. The genre is a novel and it is written in 1948. In my essay I will focus on some different analyzing points, among other the narration of the short story. I will also write about setting, the persons in the short story – characterization, something about the short story’s composition, the language and style and at last in the analyze I will interpret the theme and message of the short story.
Main part
In the main part of the essay, the focus has to be on analysing and interpretating the different texts available:
narration/point of view (fortællervinkel)
setting (miljø/tid/sted)
characterisation (personkarakteristik)
composition (komposition/teksternes opbygning)
language and style (sprog)
theme and message (tema og budskab)
The analysis and interpretation have to focus on the theme/themes from the introduction
As in every analysis, you have to document your findings:
* In your argumentation, you have to make quototations (citater) to document your claims (state page and line number)
Make specific references to page/lines in the texts
State relevant examples (page/line)
Make footnotes
Interpretation
The analysis forms the basis/foundation of the interpretation and putting the texts into perspective.
