The book’s title is ”disaster!”. It has 46 pages. Mary McIntosh has written the book, and it is published in 1998 by Oxford University Press. The book is a short story, and the theme is disasters all over the world.

The book is about different disasters, some in USA Brazil, some in Europe and Asia. There is described some disasters about the weather (tornadoes), ships (Titanic), dangerous gasses (in Bhopal in India), disasters in space, oil-disasters in Atlanta, and much more.

I think that the most exciting story is “the challenger disaster” on page 30-33 (story number 9).

In 1986 the challenger wanted an ordinary person to go into space. The president said, that it should be a teacher. The finally chosen person, was Mrs. Christa McAuliffe, and she was going to make two fifty-minutes lessons from space, so everyone in America could see her. The Challenger program had been in space nine times before, but the 10th time, it went wrong. The day that Challenger should return to the earth, it exploded in the air. Christa McAuliffe’s friends and family were standing ready with flowers and flags, but McAuliffe never came down to earth again. A few weeks after the disaster, the bodies from astronauts were found in the Atlantic Ocean. The Challenger space program has cost 1,2 billion dollars. Mrs. McAuliffe and the other astronauts were the first astronauts who were killed in “space race”.
