Solomon Northup was a black US citizen and a free man with an incredible talent. He played the violin beautifully and caught many people’s attention with his talent, even as a slave. He had 3 children and a wife whom he loved unconditionally and with all his heart.
Two white men had noticed his talent and asked him if he wanted to travel with them for different concerts and Solomon accepted. Solomon and the two white men got drunk, they drugged Solomon and then he was kidnapped and sold as a slave. It went by really quick, but since he did not have his papers, proving he was a free man, there was nothing he could do, other than survive.
In the beginning of his time in slavery, he was very convinced, he would get out of it quickly and kept denying being a slave because, technically, he was not.
He was a free man, who was robbed his freedom and his family. He deserved better, and he knew that. There was no doubt in his mind, that no one deserved to be treated this way. He kept fighting for freedom and never gave up. For 12 whole years, he never gave up.
