In the last couple of years, climate change has been the topic in many discussions, and for good reason. Climate change isn’t something that’s going to stop, by itself nor just disappear from one day to another, so today i will be trying to cover those discussions and inform you about climate change, while answering questions such as; Is there really any hope left? What can we do to prevent climate change? What is at stake? Is it even worth our time?
Climate change is something we as humans, have known about for a long time, and that’s a sad truth.
“People had long suspected that human activity could change the local climate. For example, ancient Greeks and 19th-century Americans debated how cutting down forests might bring more rainfall to a region, or perhaps less. But there were larger shifts of climate that happened all by themselves[….]” (Spencer Weart, “The Discovery of Global Warming [Excerpt] 2012)
in this quote from Spencer Weart, we are able to see how he isn’t even are discussing but stating, how humans already back in the 19th-century knew cutting down trees might bring them more or less rain.
In the speech, what if we stopped pretending? By Greta. We can see how she talks and argues about how humans are polluting way too much, and how we only have a couple hundred megatons worth of CO2 worth left to pollute for the next century. Greta uses a lot of pathos and ethos; this can be seen by her logical way of explaining our situation while appealing to our feelings. She puts a lot of focus on how we as a race just have been putting the problem aside for way too long, and it's too late to act now. But that doesn’t mean we should by any stretch of the mark stop our efforts. They still have a positive effect on the world, we just must think more about what we can do in preparation for the future, and the disasters that are coming.
