Climate change is a significant and lasting change in the statistical distribution. It is also caused by factors that include oceanic processes such as oceanic circulation. However what we can change is those human induced alterations of the natural world. Latter effects are currently causing global warming, and "climate change" is often used to describe human-specific impacts. I personally believe that industrialized countries should use more wind power like windmills, rather than using climate harmful substances, like eventually nuclear power stations. Since we are speaking about nuclear power stations, I would like to notice that this is a very unsafe area, which has serious consequences for people, the environment and the facility. Examples include lethal effects on individuals, large release of radioactivity into the environment or meltdown of the reactor core. The primary example of a "major nuclear accident" is an accident in which the reactor core is damaged and there is a major release of radioactivity, as the Chernobyl accident in 1986.
What ordinary people can do for helping the climate to change is that they for example can start with choosing energy-saving light bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs. They may cost more, but they last up to 10 times longer. A good idea is also to support policy decisions on research into climate and renewable energy, but the best decision is of course to invest in equipment that uses alternative energy. Because you are, spending creates demand and thus supply. Another opportunity is energy-efficient appliances, look after for example environmental or climate-friendly refrigerators, dishwashers or cookers. The government should also reduce our energy consumption, because a large reduction would probably be achieved in the industrialized countries just by raising taxes on fossil fuel consumption. Progressively but fast, in a planed fashion. Afterwards reducing other taxes that would make the market mechanisms play spontaneously, which would bring a big benefit: decreased emissions of greenhouse gases.
