The movie Precious is about an illiterate, young black woman who suffers from severe obesity. Her mother, Mary, is a physically and mentally abusing parent. Mary’s also an uncooperative crack addict. Her father rapes Precious. She is pregnant with his second child. Precious handles school very bad. The headmaster decides to send her to an alternative school. When Precious gathers the courage to go to Each One Teach One, the alternative school, she’s greeted by other illiterate students, some from the States, some from outside the States. Precious finds that she has an aptitude for cooking and that she really can learn to read and spell. The people that surround her at Each One Teach One are helping her develop and go through the obstacles and struggles of being an abused teenager and a teen mother. Precious gives birth to her second child fathered by her father, Carl, at the hospital. She gets help from her supportive friends at Each One Teach One. When she gets home, she gets in an argument with her antagonistic mother. Mary resorts to violence because she believes that Precious has stolen her husband from her. She decides to hit her daughter with a cast-iron skillet. Mary drops Abdul, Precious’ child on the floor on purpose. Precious runs out of the living room, unfortunately she falls down the stairs and hits her forehead. As a viewer you’re scared that something has happened to the baby but he’s alright. Precious doesn’t hesitate to flee to Each One Teach One and breaks into one of the classrooms to get some warmth and to get away from the unrelenting battering, poverty and deprivation at home. In the end, Precious takes her papier from her helper from the states and finds out that she have aids and she is going to die in the mean while her mother want her and her son Abdul home to her mother again and they have a meeting whit her and her mother and first there the truth came out of her mother that she sexually abused a home bey her father and that is the reason her mother hates her to the death but precious totally changes her character. She has developed radically. She now shows independence, capability and appreciation of her new friends. She’s gained dignity and she now know her boundaries and rights in life. Her reading level has been raised from a 2.8 on the scale to a 7.8. She’s determined to get her G.E.D. and go to college and she want to live free whit her two children to the day she is dead
