Character Analysis of Precious

Claireece P. also knowing as ‘’ Precious’’ is a sixteen years old African American teen and the main character in the horror movie ‘’Precious.’’ Precious leaves along whit her mother on an apartment in the ghetto. Precious grew up in a home whit no love. Her mother is dysfunctional, angry and jobless. She constantly discourages and berates her. Precious suffers, physical, mental and she’s been sexual abuse for a long time. Precious is been rape by her biological father, and he lives her whit HIV and pregnant for the second time. Mongo is her first born child. Mongo stands for Mongoloid, a down syndrome. Mongo is being taken care of by Precious grandmother. But precious mother forces Precious and her aged grandmother to pretend that Mongo lives whit Precious so she can cheat the welfare system and receive extra money from the government.

Precious is also faced whit other serious problem she can’t read or write. Precious go through very tough and awful experiences. As a result of her parent’s behave Precious became distressed and an unhappy girl. Precious is black and have a big figure, her body structure is not accepted or considered as beautiful in the American society. Because of that Precious feels ugly, unlovable, and unsexy it’s making her to isolate herself from the rest of the world. When she looked in the mirror she sees herself as a pretty skinny white girl whit blond hair. Precious finds a way out of her traumatic daily live. Sometimes she dreams away. She starts living in a world of fantasy and imagination so she is able to ignore her frustrating and her fantasy world is the place where she can fell loved and accepted.
