The story is about a sixteen years old girl, called Claireece Precious Jones.
She is sixteen years old, and lives in Harlem.
She is having a very hard and difficult life.
Physically abused by her mother and raped by her father, she grows up poor, angry, illiterate, extremely obese, unloved and generally just unnoticed.
Because of all that abuse, Precious has no confidence at all.
She describes her self as ‘’ ugly black grease to be washed from the street.’’
When she was twelve years old, she had her first child with her father.
The child has Down Sinder, and she is retarded.
Because of her young age, and also because she could not take care of the child, the grandmother takes care of the child for her.
As said Precious is illiterate, and she is having a very hard time in the school, because she is not that good at reading and writing, but even though she has considered a good student, because she is quiet, and she does not causes no troubles. But one day her life changes, however, when the school discovers that she is pregnant, and then she is kicked out of school.
So after this, her only option is to attend an alternative school.
