Summary

This story describes the life of Boris Ivanovich and his wife, Anna, whose son was just rejected to enter the best nursery school in Manhattan. This slowly ruins the whole family’s reputation and they are shut out of many aspects of the society. Dmitri Siminov, a co worker at Boris’ work tells him stories of how other boys that was rejected at a young age turned out, this frightens Boris and he ends up taking advice from one of his Lawyer friends. After selling their house to bribe the school and giving inside knowledge on the stocks of businesses that Boris had access to, they end up getting a second chance for an interview at the nursery school, but their son’s Guppy had just passed, leaving him pretty much useless at the interview so of course he was rejected once again. At this point they had nothing left and ended up living in a homeless shelter with others that had gone through similar situations as themselves. This made Boris believe that there is meaning in life, and that everyone both rich and poor eventually will dwell into the City of God.
