In the short story “Singer of Songs” by Ken Mcbeath, 2009, we meet Mac at a pub in Edinburgh. Mac meets up with all his friends at the pub, because his wife Janet always kicks up a fuss. Mac meets up with Gordon, he just got back from another year working as diamond exploration geologist in Afrika. They drink and talk. Talk about football and their lives. Mac admires Gordon’s exciting and adventurous life. Gordon tells Mac that his job is not really that exciting as he thinks it is actually really boring. Gordon says that everybody in his field camp knows Macs songs. Gordon wants Mac to come to Africa with him. Mac doesn’t know if it’s a good idea, Janet would not like it. Mac thinks about the pros and cons of going. He is not sure that he will ever take the chance.

In the text we hear about Mac and his friend Gordon, Mac admires Gordon’s life and dream about having a life like Gordon. He learns that not everything is as it seems from the outside. He doesn’t need to dream about other’s lives, he just needs to take some chances in his own life.
