This short story by Ken Mcbeath tells a story from an episode of Mac’s life. Mac is a middle-aged man, lives a quite normal life with a wife and a job. He works with electronics and writes songs in his spare time. In a pub he meets up with an old friend, Gordon, an adventures man who work as a geologist in Africa. Every time they meet, Gordon tells him stories about his experiences as a geologist in Africa and Mac loves to hear them, because he thinks they contain the excitement he misses in his own life. Mac and Gordon keep drinking in the pub while they exchange talk, but at a certain state in their conversation, Gordon admits that he does not like his job. He reveals about the boring sides of being a geologist and how travelling for so long caused him a divorce with his wife. At the end of the night Gordon gives Mac an offer to travel with him to Africa, where people down there actually value his music and that they would love to meet him. The suggestion sounds very tempting to him, but it is unfortunately not as simple for him as that.
