One may say, America is one of the most powerful countries in the world. However, why is there still no good solution to the lacking efficiency to the healthcare system? Millions of Americans cannot even afford health insurance, and what follows may be a possible death. For example, drug addicts are at the bottom of the chart, when it comes to helping and recognize them for the seriousness in that specific condition, which they have. This is sadly the unbearable reality in America. The article “I Am Going to Die if I Keep Living the Way I Am” by Beth Marcy, a journalist who covers the ongoing opioid crisis in America. Marcy focusses on the main issue of treating drug addicts. Especially what drug addicts can go through when they are failed by the system.

The article “I Am Going to Die if I Keep Living the Way I Am” by Beth Marcy from 2018, shows how troubled America truly has become. This opioid crisis among the American’s is not only a poorly tragedy but also a very serious one. The addiction can lead to severe damage to the addicted individual. This article centres on how an addict truly cared to live and survive, but the addiction took up too much space. Tess Henry was a strong woman but got stuck in an evil circle of withdrawal. Even though the journalist Beth Marcy was close to Tess, and helped her through several programs, which focus was to help people with addiction, it was not enough to save Tess’s life. It is clear to see, how Marcy sincerely cared for Tess. Even though she covered the opioid epidemic, this was also a case for her to be there for a human in need. “Tess loved books, so I sent her Tracey Helton Mitchell’s The Big Fix: Hope After Heroin (..)”. Marcy’s intention is very clear because she wants the best for Tess and understood her situation. Marcy persuades to pathos since she mentions how she helped Tess, and what she did for her. Especially, in the reference above, how she gave her books which purpose was to give Tess some sort of a will to live after all the pain she went through.
