To be a parent can sometimes be really hard, especially if you are parents of a teenagers who always makes troubles and problems at school. But why is he doing so much trouble in school? It can also be difficult for parents to understand why their teenager makes so much trouble. Can children be the reason that parents ' relationship breaks and maybe they end up going form each other?

The short story is written in the year 1990, and you hear the story from the father’s point of the view. The theme in the story is love, youth, growing up. The title” parents who love in a living hell”, is a good title because it’s hard to be a parents, especially Billy because he makes so much trouble, he takes a lot of their attention. It’s hard to love Billy, it’s like hell to love billy but they still love him and that’s why the title fits the story.

The father is tired of Billy’s behaviour and tired of that he continues to make trouble the father just wants him to pull himself together in school so he can get a good education in the future. He is just a good father because when billy needs help, he helps also when the school calls him. ’’I’ve written so many notes excusing his tardiness to school on one pretext or another. Look, I know it’s wrong,’’ (page 1, line 20-21) he lies to the school to put Billy in a better light, and he knows it’s wrong. Those times he’s been at the police station, he had picked him up, and he wants what’s best for Billy. He knows how good Billy is, because when he was at Billy’s age, he too was a troublemaker, and he also admits that he has tried a couple of different drugs “I was no perfect kid myself, and I freely admit this to billy” (page 1, line 10). But even though the father was a troublemaker, he doesn’t understand that Billy is stupid enough to drive while he was drunk, and steal from a school.
