The song ‘American Pie’ was written by folk song writer Don McLean in 1971. Some people claim it is the most famous song of the '60s, and it describes the death of rock star Buddy Holly or the Altamont Free Concert where a young man was killed. Madonna released a cover version of the song with the beginning of the first verse, all of the second verse and sixth verse. You can listen to both versions.
