Gender is by definition scientific tool to enlighten which chromosomes, we are built from. It determines whether you have two x chromosomes or an y and a x chromosome. Naturally two living creatures of both the male and the female gender will unite to reproduce and continue the evolution of their race.
In all of history up until this century men have been oppressing woman. The male was superior in hierarchy, controlling the woman around him. Even from the beginning of the human evolution in the stone age, cavemen were uncivilized and violent towards their females. The woman was almost solely used for reproduction and food collecting. The term “caveman” is also today used to describe men who acts violent towards, especially woman. Moving up in time, men has always been oppressing woman in all kinds of ways. An example could be the will to vote and work, which was not granted to the woman before the 20th century. Using the man’s strength, he empowered himself and stayed in power with raw force for a long period of time.
Times have now changed and women are in the western society by law equal to men. Both equal privilege, common social gods and rights are applied likewise to both genders. All initiatives to create an equal and fair world have helped and a huge process has been made. However, all is not as good as it seems. Predators who commit both sexual harassment, sexual abuse and rape are hiding in every corner and end of society, and the women are still oppressed in many ways. Around 33 million American women have already been sexually abused or harassed at some point in their life. 14 million of the cases are work related incidents.. These numbers express how enormous this problem actually is, because each incident of sexual harassment creates another victim. Another victim who must carry the burden of feeling unsecure and scared in their environment. The fear of conversation is also relevant in this context, because society expect women to keep silent to prevent loss of status. This is because our society builds on being “perfect.” The help that should be given is therefore lost in the race of perfection and judgement.
