Drive-Throughs that predict your order - restaurants are thinking fast

The drive-throughs haven’t changed in decades, but several restaurants are moving quickly to improve their online orders and app abilities, etc. This essay will account for the history of the drive-through, discuss the pros and cons of drive-throughs and discuss how the pandemic has influenced companies’ innovative approach to drive-throughs.

The whole thing about drive-throughs started back in the 1930s, allowing the two working parents to pick up a quick and easy meal, instead of cooking one for themselves. In the 1970s the phenomenon became more mainstream and a source of cheerfulness, when McDonald’s installed drive-throughs. More people began to like the concept because it was easy and cheap. Throughout time several chains of restaurants started having drive-throughs, where you could take out the food. Nowadays companies are developing digital ordering and app abilities where you can order your food at home and pick up your order afterward.

There is a reason that we are seeing more and more development of drive-throughs. Drive-throughs have been a huge advantage for the restaurants during the global pandemic, because of the restrictions where you could not eat inside the restaurants. And with the new digital ordering, the customers have the opportunity to order a specific order at home, which makes it easier for the employees to not make a mistake with the order. Because of the success with drive-throughs, many restaurants have switched much of their focus to creating smaller restaurants with dual drive-through lanes and curbside pickup. Of course, the biggest pro of drive-throughs is that it is a good way of getting fast food. Drive-through times average 4 minutes and 15 seconds, but the restaurants are always looking for new and better techniques where they can shave off minutes and even seconds.
