My name is Fayad, and I'd like to introduce myself. I'm fifteen years old. I'm a young boy with brown hair and dark circles under my eyes. I'm from Turkey, which is in Europe. Many folks in my homeland told wonderful and exciting stories about the "GOLDEN LAND" known as America. My mother and father, as well as my brother and two sisters, make up my family. We had to leave our nation. My parents believed that in America, we would have a better life. My family was a disaster.

As the ship approached the port, we could see the Statue of Liberty, which stood majestically. People who were about to become citizens of the United States gathered to the left of the boat, gasping and grinning.

As I strode confidently forward to the steerage line, I grumbled to myself, angry that I was in steerage rather than a higher class. Following that, I was given a numbered tag and an ambiguous command to join another extremely lengthy queue. A number was screamed by the man. The manner the director spoke irritated me, and I ‘didn’t say anything about it.
