Michelle Obama was born in Chicago, United states states, in 1964. She lived very closely with her family growing up. She had her parents and her older brother, that people often mistook for her twin. They would play lots of games together, and share many meals.

Money problems

Her family wasn’t starving or had to fear that they would lose their home, but they definitely weren’t rich. They lived in a very small house, and her and her brother was therefore also forced to share the living room as their room, with only a sheet to divide it into two rooms. But that also caused the family to become even closer, and is also a reason that Michelle Obama emphasises the importance of family.

Because her parents didn’t make that much money, they always made it clear for Michelle, that education was very important, which made Michelle very hard-working, and she would later go on to attend Princeton university.

Carrier

In Princeton University she would study sociology and African-American, and would later graduate from Harvard Law School, and become a lawyer in the Chicago law firm. It was also there she met Barack Obama, who later would marry her.

She was happy there, but there was something else she rather would do. She wanted to work with people, and help various communities. She became the assistant commissioner of planning and development in Chicago’s city hall, and later she would go on to be the founding executive director of the Chicago chapter of public allies.
