Bearded Dragons Pogona is a species of reptile that contains six species of lizards commonly known as beards. The name "bearded dragon" refers to the underside of the lizard's throat (or "beard"), which can become black and puffy for a variety of reasons, often as a result of stress, or if they feel threatened. They are a semi-tree species, spending significant amounts of time on branches, in shrubs, and near human habitation. Pogona species perch on rocks and expose branches in the morning and afternoon.
