Day 22 - Land ahoy! Today we saw our first piece of dry land in the last couple of weeks. Was I relieved? A bit maybe. Even though I like to be out on the open water where nothing, but a couple of seagulls and my fellow crewmates visit me it felt good to be near dry land again and of course I was very excited to visit America. I did not really know what to expect except for all the movies and stories I have heard about New York, the city that never sleeps. When we sailed into the New York harbor we saw the statue of liberty. It was very beautiful and a lot taller than I had expected at first. Everyone was called on deck as we approached the Manhattan skyline. I do not think I have ever seen so many buildings crammed together on an island. But the fun did not begin right away. Before going off the ship we had to clean the entire ship. Along with a couple of mates I were assigned to clean the deck. I was quite satisfied with cleaning the deck. It is just like washing your room at home, just easier because you do not have to dry it, the sun will do the hard work for you. After we were done with cleaning the deck we were dismissed and went off the ship. Since it was almost 10 pm. In New York we went out for dinner. We ate a typical American meal, hot wings with ranch dressing and fries. We wanted to see the city but chose to do it tomorrow since we were very tired. So, we went back to our quarters, and I fell asleep in no time.
