Systemic racism refers to an ingrained culture of racism, that has played a larger role in the segregation within the American society. Racism and segregation are common concepts that for decades has been associated with America. Although the discrimination between the races has decreased over the last 100 years, the problem of the racial injustice is sadly still worthy of recognition in today’s society. Many people, often white Americans do not acknowledge that there still is a problem, but the difference in employment, salaries, wealth, handling of legal proceedings and general treatment tells us otherwise. The systemic racism has arisen as a result of the hundreds of years of harsh segregation, which unfortunately still is imbedded into today’s society.

The nonprofit organization `Race Forward´ sets some examples of where the racial injustice still affects both employments, the wealth gab, housing discrimination, government surveillance and incarceration. For an example in regard to employment, the number of unemployment black citizens has been twice the amount of the white unemployed citizens. In addition to this, the wealth gab is especially interesting to take a look at. According to the statistics in 2010, the black Americans made up 13% of the US population, but only had 2,7% of the country’s wealth. These numbers prove that the problem of the systemic racism still takes place, even though the inequality isn’t acknowledged as a societal problem by a quantity of the white Americans.
