Give an outline of the views on gun control presented in text 1 and 2

In text 1, written by Gary Younge, the gun laws are presented as outdated, in the sense that, and I quote:” Americans need new gun laws (p. 3, line 49)”. He believes that in order to build a safer society, the gun laws must be updated. He begins his article by telling about an incident in Indianapolis, in which a stray bullet shattered the window of an apartment, where a couple and their baby lived. He uses this incident to draw parallels from the incident to the Police enforcement and the NRA’s opinion on how to act in a similar situation. The NRA is in the belief that they should stand and fight, whereas the dispatcher told them to sit tight and wait for an officer to arrive.

The writer argues for why Americans won’t give up their guns, the incident written above draws a good picture for why having a gun is crucial in their opinion. America is built upon the foundation to protect one’s family. As I understand Gary Younge’s message in the article, he doesn’t want to remove all guns from the ordinary home, however he wants to limit the access for buying a gun, so that only sensible and rather experienced people have the option to buy a gun, whether or not they want one.
