The chosen topic: Recently, as the new curriculum of the 10th grade has been released by MOET and history now officially becomes the optional subject, there was a strong objection and criticism towards this decision. Patriotism is the essential reason that crowd based on to give out this reaction. One famous teacher, however, said that “…in 1945, there was nearly 90% of Vietnamese are illiterate ones and we still led the August Revolution to the great victory. Patriotism, hence, is not equal to learning history…”.To which extent, do you agree with this teacher’s opinion?

The Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training has publicized the developed curriculum for the first year of high school in the education system, which causes controversial issues in the community. It is arguable whether kicking out history as a compulsory subject is an appropriate decision and patriotism will decrease due to the lack of historical knowledge. Contrary to those popular concerns, one teacher emphasizes that patriotism is not equal to learning history and gives a historical event as evidence to persuade. In my opinion, patriotism is indeed built not only based on learning historical events but also through various activities and subjects, however, I strongly believe that teaching history affects directly and immensely patriotism and nationalism, especially in young generations.
