Resumé

In this assignment, I will focus on the Danish society and how the Wall Street Crash interfered with the society. I chose this topic because the Wall Street Crash was a big part of the inter-war period and had a big influence on the world. In this assignment, I will look in to the Danish society during the period and the hierarchy. I will also look at Denmark’s development throughout the inter-war period. I will analyze H. C. Branner’s novel “Legetøj” with a focus point on the society and working conditions. I will also examine the relevance and credibility of my sources throughout the assignment. At last, I will combined my results into a conclusion.

The Danish society was hit hard by The Wall Street Crash in 1929, just like the rest of the world. Denmark came out of World War 1 with a lot of optimism towards the future. The results of the war created a drop in the Danish exports and had a lot of business’ going bankrupt. Many businesses failed to make a profit and had to close which developed an increase in the unemployment. The rowing 20’s were characterized by a growing industrialization that was all new to Denmark but brought a whole new profession with it. The new way to fast production and fast delivery would help increase both the unemployment and exportThroughout the 20’s the Danish society, population and economy increased. When the Wall Street’s Stock Exchanged crashed, the whole world went in to an economic crisis. The export decreased once again and the farmers couldn’t sell their products. . Not only did the industrialization shape the inter-war period, so did the Urbanization once the Wall Street Stock Marked crashed. The unemployment increased and people started moving to the city with the hopes of getting a job. When the jobs were coveted, the working conditions got bad. As the conditions on the working and living area decreased the people started feeling pressured and depressed. The time after the crash was known as the Great Depression. The Government made new trade agreements and laws for the population. The Government planned to build public buildings to create more jobs and increase the economy.
