There are major environmental problems, perhaps eating less meat is the way forward to save our world, and what should happen to the jobs affected by such a development?

The per capita red meat use has been static since the 1990s. In contrast, we are seeing a rapid growth in per capita consumption for pork and poultry (up to 300% in places in the last 25 years).

In recent times, we have become more aware of how much of an impact the production of animal products has on our climate.

First, animals such as cows, pigs, sheep, and chickens contribute to 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

Secondly, food is transported around the world, this helps to increase our fossil fuel consumption.

Thirdly, rainforests are being cleared to keep cattle for food production.

Carlos Nobre, who is a climate scientist says:

"The Amazon rainforest is a huge carbon sink that acts to cool global temperature, but rates of deforestation are accelerating, in part because of the policies and actions of the government of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. Unless stopped, deforestation could turn much of the remaining Amazon Forest into a degraded type of desert, and could release more than 50 billion tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere in 30 to 50 years"
