Thank you for allowing me to attend the Youth Climate Summit. Today I want
to talk about something important about how eating meat affects our
environment.
A recent United Nations report showed that the meat industry produces more
greenhouse gases than all cars, trucks, planes and ships combined. This is a
big deal because these glasses are destroying our climate.
Meat production accounts for approximately 30% of global greenhouse gases.
It's not just the gases from meat production that cause deforestation, we cut
down a lot of trees, but we also use a lot of water and resources that could be
used for other purposes. Faced with this problem, we must make decisions
that are good for our planet. One idea that is gaining attention around the
world is Meatless Monday.
You may be wondering whether a day without meat actually makes a
difference. Well, it’s important to understand that when a lot of people make
the same choice, it adds up. Meatless Monday demonstrates a shift in our
thinking by recognizing the impact of our choices on the environment and
committing to a more sustainable lifestyle. It may not solve every problem, but
it's a step in the right direction.
