I think it’s a touchy subject to discuss because in this century phones have been a part of people’s everyday life for 10-15 years. And there are many different opinions on whether students should have their phones in class. I know that It is becoming more and more normal for students to put their phones in a locker or something like that, at the beginning of their lessons. A good thing about this rule is probably that they won’t be disturbed or lose focus because of a notification from the phone. Many young people have a hard time ignoring a text or a call from their friends and family so some of them will check it in the middle of a lesson which will cause a loss of concentration and focus Even though it can be disturbing I also think that phones don’t necessarily have to be a bad thing In schools they can be used for learning too if you use them the right way, for example, kahoots, taking pictures of your written assignments to digitize them. There are many ways to use them constructively. but then why are we banning them when the majority of the students say they can manage their phone use? I believe that many teachers have been proven wrong many times before this new phone rule so now there is just no mercy from many schools. But I do think that schools need to realize that phones are a part of the future so phones in class can’t be avoided for much longer. students have to learn how to have their phones in class at some point so in my opinion banning them is a giant step back in time.
