Billy covered the hole with earth, and cried a little. On the way home, Billy thought that he should get a new kestrel. Billy knew that if he wanted a new kestrel, he would need to pay Jud’s money back. But before he could do that, he would need to get a job. Luckily Billy was about go out of school and get a job. The next day Billy went to the employer, he wanted a well paid job. When Billy came home, he’d got a job that would pay him 50p per day, that wasn’t enough to pay Jud back in a month. Billy decided that he should work in a couple of days, bet on a horse that weren’t likely to win, and then pay Jud back. Then Billy could get a new kestrel, without the risk that Jud would kill it again. The next day Billy started at his new work, he thought that work was better than school because of two things. They were that he at least got paid at work, and he didn’t get punished for smoking a cigarette. When Billy came home, he had found out that work was much harder than school, and after dinner he went right to bed. This continued in the following couple of days, and then Billy went to the betting house. He betted all of his money on a horse named Mr. Bean. The horse named Mr. Bean had the odds 1/37, which meant he would have 37 times more money than he was betting if Billy won. Billy went home, and about a few hours later he came back. Billy found out that he had lost, he went home again. A couple of days later Billy had enough money to bet again, and so he did. But this time he also lost, and he thought: “Third time is lucky time”. And the third time Billy won 18£! Now Billy was very happy because he could pay Jud back, Billy just needed to find and catch a new kestrel. The next weekend Billy went to the forest, to look for a new kestrel. While Billy wandered around in the forest, he saw something flying in the air between the treetops. Billy ran after it, but it was very quick. Suddenly the flying thing flew into a tree and felled down to the ground, Billy ran over to it. He saw it was a kestrel, he picked it up and took it home. Billy lived a happy life with his kestrel, of course in poverty, because he was in the British working class, until the kestrel died.
