Billy is a boy who lives in the little County Durham. He lives together with his Father, Jackie and his brother, Tony. Billy’s Father is striking, and all the other miners are doing the same. They don’t want to work anymore down in the black and cold mines, they want more pay for the hard work!
Billy's father is an very big admire of boxing and he hopes that Billy would become a great boxer once. But Billy does not want to box and he really has no talent for it. He has his thoughts in a completely different place, he loves music and he got that interest from his mother who died when he was little.
A little part of the boxing gym is used by a ballet class, because of their usual premises in the basement is being used as a kitchen for the miners.
