Billy Elliot: plot summary og fortsættelse

…At first Billy’s dad refuses to consider his son’s desires of going into ballet, but he comes to realize that this might be the one shot that Billy has in order to escape the danger and grinding tedium of a miners life, so Billy’s dad sets out to get some money by any means necessary to send Billy to London’s Royal Ballet, eventually Billy gets a letter from London’s Royal Ballet telling him that he has been accepted.

Billy leaves for London and says goodbye to Mrs. Wilkinson, his friends, neighbors and especially his mother.

…Billy must struggle against society and his own family, since it is generally believed that ballet is either for girls or for gay boys. His father is shocked when he found out that Billy prefers ballet to boxing. But Billy never gives up and his father comes to realize that this might be the one shot that Billy has in order to escape the community. Then Billy leaves for London and says goodbye.

Time goes by... and Billy’s dad goes to London to see Billy on his first night as the main dancer in London’s Royal Ballet. Billy dances wonderfully and his dad is proud of him.
