Most of the time, the film takes place in Everington in the northeast of England where he, his father, Jackie and his brother, Tony lives. It is a small town where working class- and poor families live. He doesn’t like boxing but ballet is his big passion even though his hardworking dad wants him to go to boxing instead.
The life of Billy is forever changed when he one day stops practicing boxing and starts with ballet. His ballet teacher Mrs. Wilkinson believes in Billy and she knows that he has potential, so she kee-ps pushing Billy because she knows that he can do it. Mrs. Wilkinson is a woman who fights for what she believes in and she has such a big hope. With her never ending stream of cigarettes in her hand changes Mrs. Wilkinson her way of teaching when she see Billy’s big talent for ballet. She will rather forget the other ballet dancers because she sees Billy’s moves on the floor. She gets re-ally drawn into teaching her new pupil.
