Billy Elliot is an 11 year old boy who lives in Everington, Durham. Billy is a slim and very self – confident about everything. His mother is dead and he lives with his father Jackie, his older brother Tony and his Nan. Billy goes to boxing, but he doesn’t enjoy it. Jackie takes Billy to the sports center to learn boxing like his father’s dad. But Billy struggles and hates the sport. In the boxing ring he dances around his opponent and then loses the match. Billy joins a dancing class and starts learning to dance without his father knowing. Billy’s best friend is a poof. Billy is very brave, because in the film we see the way he answers back at his father. Billy’s family is very poor because of the strike.

The film is taking place in Everington, Durham in the 1980s. I believe it is because nowadays there are not many strikes, and there are only a few people that work in the mines. I can see the houses, they look a bit old, and the environment around them is old. The furniture is not modern. It’s a bit antique, old fashioned. The name Billy, nowadays only a few people have that name. The car Miss. Wilkinson drives in is a very old care from what is looks like from the inside and outside. The houses Billy lives in are very small and tight, and there is not enough place for them to live in.
