The land of freedom, also known as America, is a land for which many have died and fought, made
by those before us. Yet, to this day, not many from the new generation truly appreciate the freedom
that has been given to them by the blood of their ancestors. In the film "The Patriot," directed by
Roland Emmerich in 2000, we truly experience war up close and get to know specific characters,
which makes war somewhat personal. In this essay, I'm going to write about how people don't really
appreciate the freedom of America and how movies like "The Patriot" represent America as a
country worth fighting for and appreciating.
In "The Patriot," we get to know a character named Benjamin, an honorable man who chooses to
fight for his country even though he has to pay the price. We see this in the movie when Benjamin
chooses to return to the war riding on his horse with the American flag raised in his right hand just
after he has lost his second son to the war.
This scene is made so perfectly because you can really feel the pain Benjamin is going through with
the loss of his second son, but you can also feel the joy in the other soldiers' voices and the
