Rosa parks is an iconic figure in America civil rights movement. Her defiance in 1955 of a
bus driver who ordered her to make way for a white passenger led to the Montgomery Bus
Boycott, which galvanized the civil rights movement and altered both the United States
and the world.
One day, December 1st of the year 1955, an African American woman named Rosa
Parks had taken a seat in one of the buses in Montgomery, Alabama. The southern U.S.
operated under strict seperation laws that required Black people to leave their seat to a
white person if the bus was full. The bus driver demanded that Rosa Parks and several
other black people give up their seats after a white man boarded the bus and found no
space. But no, one woman in that bus on her way home after a hard day at work, and
decided to ignore the driver and passenger by saying simply “I am not moving. Then she
basically did nothing other than keep silent while being arrested.
Those who were outraged called authorities and took direct action when they heard of
Parks being arrested. shortly after, namely, directly as result of Rosa Parks' courage
