'Kiss and Tell' af John Sam Jones, analyse

The story “Kiss and Tell” by John Sam Jones, takes place in the northern part of Wales, more precisely in a small town called Rhos-on-Sea, (Line 45. page 2). We hear about a group of some students and their teachers, as we follow them through their life, at their school. Their actions and behavior are really influenced by the big ongoing debate about homosexuality, and the fact that even some students and one teacher, has decided to come out of the closet. These brave decisions will be respected by most, but all through that, there are still people, the “rugby players” as they are called, who looks at this sexuality with disgust and non-respect (Line 36. Page 2). However, this is an act that they put on, to hide their own small insecurities. We don’t know the amount of time where we follow them, but that the story goes over a longer period of time, and it jumps in time and place.

“He knew about gays and lesbians, of course; his parents had even been to a Civil Partnership” (Line 26. page 2). Like we see here, the story is told by a third person narrator. This narrator is not a character in the story, but just an observer. We get to hear the thoughts of all the characters that we meet. We also get to hear about some of the characters backstories and backgrounds, and past events they have participated in. Those things give us a better understanding and feeling of why some of the characters act like they do, in some situations. It really helps us get an overview with the situations.
