Even though your favourite team lost 4-0 the week before, you still show up in the stands the week after to scream your lungs out hoping they will do better this time. No matter the weather conditions at least 20.000 fans show up every week. Football tickets have become very expensive, but still even the poorest people manage to afford a season ticket. Football is also an opportunity to socialise with other people. To fans can go into the stadium as death enemies and after one and a half hour they are best mates and go to the pub for a drink. Such things can happen because everyday problems are not important when you go to a football match. You only concentrate about supporting your own team and hating your opponent. You have a common enemy
Football is also a picture of English society. Some clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal Liverpool and man u belong to the upper-class and clubs like West Ham and Wimbledon to the working class. It does not only show in the kind of people who come to watch the matches, the players are also aware of what kind of club they represent. The tactic of West Ham or Wimbledon has always been the traditional English style. They fight 100 % every time and are always focussed on getting the ball in goal as quickly as possible, even though their technical skills do not live up to the fast game. Even if they are 1-0 up in the last minute they still go for another goal. That has cost British football many victories against teams from especially Spain and Italy. Italian and Spanish players are great defenders and have very fast counter attacks, and that has killed many English teams. An Italian coach once said “English players play with the heart and not with the head.”
