EU means European union it’s a group who helps each other with economy and politics. Right now there are 27 countries in the union. But let me tell you the entire story in a short amount of time. After the second world war some countries were interested in cooperation to rebuild Europe. In The year of 1946 Winston Churchill spoke of establishing Europes united states. But the year of 1950 they started making a union to secure eternal peace. The union was called the European coal and steel community. It helped with economy and political problems. The six countries who started it all where Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherland and Germany. the 1950ies where marked by the cold war between east and west. Denmark Ireland and great Britain joined EU 1. Of January 1973 the short but brutal Arabian-israelic war in October 1973 creates an energycrisis and economic problems in Europe
In 1981 Greece became the 10th member of EU. 5 years later Spain and Portugal followed. In 1995 EU gets 3 new members Austria Finland and Sweden. The political division between east and vest Europe disappears when 10 new members joins EU in 2004 followed by 2 more in 2007. The global economy is hit by the finansial crisis in 2008 and that leads to a closer economic cooperation between the EU countries.
