Basketball was founded in December 1891 by Dr. James Naismith. He was a professor and instructor at Young Men's Christian Association Training School (YMCA) Today Springfield College. He was making the game to keep his students occupied in the winter and cold days. He wrote the basic rules and took a peach basket and hang it on the wall. He didn’t take off the bottom of the basket so after each basket he had to go and get it. Then he made a hole in the bottom so he could take the balls out with a stick. First in 1906 they started to use metal hoops with a backboard. The basic basketball rules is: You aren’t allowed to take more than 2 steps with the ball in your hands. You may not dribble, take the ball up and then dribble again. You may not push, hold or hit someone. You aren’t allowed to go outside the court.
The first game was played at YMCA gymnasium the 20. January 1892 with nine players. The game ended 1-0, the shot was made from 7.6 meter on a court just half the size of a present day courts. By 1897- 1898 teams with 5 players became the standard.
